Merton Bank Primary School Pupils love Hip Hop!

The Powered By Hip Hop/UC Crew team visited Merton Bank Primary School to teach Breaking (Break Dance) and Graffiti Workshops themed around schools values and Hip Hop values. We provided the workshops to introduce young people to Hip Hop arts, learn about safe youth clubs/activities in the town and understand the difference between graffiti art and vandalism.

The St Helens School Workshop was funded by the Community Foundation for Merseyside - VRP Funding, to reduce crime/antisocial behaviour throughout the town centre and this project was focused on reducing the number of young people being a victim of crime/bullying/cyberbullying by raising awareness and providing pathways to safe youth clubs/activities as an alternative to hanging around the streets or staying at home playing computer games.

Pupils and teachers enjoyed learning about graffiti and street art styles, rules and techniques, as well as getting active with the spinning, stepping and exciting moves taught in the Breaking (Break Dance) class.

The day ended with the pupils creating a graffiti art mural in the playground dedicated to the school’s motto of being ‘Never Less Than Our Best’
