We visited St Aidan’s CE Primary School with our DJ Tommy Pnuts to provide a DJ Workshop for school pupils, which involved learning the history of how scratching and beat matching were invented, the fundamentals of djing, how often you should practice and where to learn in St Helens.

The students were amazed by Toms skills as a multiple World DJing Champion and his effective teaching techniques, they didn’t know you could learning DJ in St Helens as a hobby, its connection to Hip Hop and the after-school clubs that UC Crew / Powered by Hip Hop run for students like them.

The Community Foundation for Merseyside and Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership funded the young people’s workshops to provide everyone with the opportunity to get involved.

The aim of our Hip Hop Shield Project is to provide activities to engage young people in diversionary activities away from crime/anti-social behaviour or avoid being a victim of crime/anti-social behaviour by attending safe youth activities.
